strategic AI intelligence

Bell Light

AI is selling your product. Make sure it gets it right.

You probably don't need to worry about whether AI knows about your product. It's most likely learned about it one way or another already.

The thing to worry about is what it says about it, in what context, and to whom.

In what context does it recommend you? How does it represent your product? Does it position it correctly and surface the most important features or capabilities? Does it add anything on its own that isn't actually true?

Unfortunately, answering those questions requires far more than just running your brand through ChatGPT...

That's why I launched Bell Light - my strategic AI intelligence service for marketing teams.

I continuously investigate and pressure-test how AI systems understand, represent and recommend your company and its products.

Then I work through the findings, separate signal from noise, and identify what deserves your marketing team's attention.

But I don't do this just to produce more data. There's plenty of that available already.

Various tools allow you to measure mentions. Prompt coverage. Share of voice. Citations. And do the same for competitors, too.

You can put all of it on a dashboard and watch the numbers move.

But useful as that can be, it still leaves the difficult part untouched:

What actually deserves your attention?

What you're missing is somebody whose job is to keep looking at this particular problem, investigate what is actually happening and tell your team what deserves its attention next.

Suppose your visibility looks strong across the prompts you're monitoring. You're in every answer, within the correct comp set, and your visibility score seems fine.

On paper, this looks like a win.

And yet, when potential customers ask for products that solve the very problem your company solves best, AI systems fail to recognise your strongest selling point as a reason to recommend you. Or worse, misrepresent it, positioning you as worse than the competition...

Fixing that may matter considerably more than increasing your overall visibility score.

Or perhaps, AI systems constantly miss the point when comparing you to a competitor, and do your product a disservice. Invent features. Confuse your category. Or mention you to the wrong audience.

The numbers would still look good.

And you'd still be losing.

I launched Bell Light to make those distinctions and identify what deserves your attention next.

How it works

I work with companies on an ongoing basis. I begin by learning your business and establishing the baseline of how AI systems currently understand and recommend you.

From there, I run focused tests and investigations to uncover discrepancies, misconceptions and commercially meaningful opportunities.

For each investigation, I work through the evidence and give your team insights: what I investigated, what I discovered, why I think it matters, and what I think deserves your attention.

And I keep looking.

In other words, I investigate. Your team decides what to do.

Bell Light isn't an AI SEO service.

I don't produce content, optimise pages, build citations, etc. Your marketing team already knows how to do all that better than me.

My job is to give them intelligence they don't currently have.

If I discover that an important product capability is poorly understood, your team might decide the answer belongs in product marketing, content, PR, the website or somewhere else entirely.

They might decide to act immediately.

They might decide it isn't important enough.

They might know something I don't and reject the recommendation.

That's fine.

I own the investigation. You own the response.

And when something works, the result belongs to your team too.

What I typically investigate

The tests I run are different for every company because the questions come from the business rather than a fixed checklist.

However, some of the common questions that spark investigations include:

  • Does AI associate you strongly enough with a capability that drives purchasing decisions?
  • Are you being considered in an important buying situation without somebody explicitly asking for your category?
  • Is a competitor consistently preferred for a reason that no longer reflects reality?
  • Has AI picked up a positioning change or significant new product capability?
  • Does a misconception frequently heard by Sales also appear in AI recommendations?
  • Do the sources shaping an important recommendation contain outdated or incomplete information?
  • Does AI understand which customers your product is and isn't suited to?
  • Does apparently weak visibility represent a genuine commercial gap or merely an unimportant measurement gap?

Sometimes an investigation identifies something worth acting on.

Sometimes it tells us that something which looked important isn't.

Both are useful.

Your marketing team has finite attention. Bell Light is there to help decide where that attention is best spent.

Who Bell Light is for

Companies typically hire me when AI visibility is already a serious marketing concern.

You don't need convincing that customers use AI to research products. You don't need somebody to explain that competitors appear in ChatGPT. And you're probably past the stage where discovering your visibility score feels like the answer.

You have a marketing team capable of acting when something matters.

What you need is somebody focused on finding out what those things are.

That's the role Bell Light fills.

One person, deliberately

Bell Light isn't an agency.

It's a service I run personally for a small group of clients.

I built the testing and monitoring infrastructure I need, and I conduct all the investigation and interpretation on my own.

I learn the business, decide what questions are worth asking, design the investigations, examine what comes back and make the judgment.

What happens first

We start by establishing what is true.

I learn how the business actually works, particularly the things that matter to customer choice: what people buy you for, where you win and lose, what prospects misunderstand, which capabilities matter commercially and what is changing.

I then benchmark that against how AI systems currently understand and recommend you.

From there, I identify the first questions worth investigating.

And I begin doing what I am here to do: keep finding out what deserves your attention next.
